  Our sustainability courses include home composting for beginners (available in-person and online), worm farm setup workshops, beekeeping introduction and workshops, indigenous plant gardening, fruit tree pruning (winter and summer), and community planting days focused on riparian restoration. We also offer repair and upcycling classes including clothing alterations and mending, kintsugi ceramic repair, and leather goods making using reclaimed materials.

• What is covered in the Home Composting for Beginners workshop?

  This workshop covers the basics of home composting including how to set up and maintain a compost system, the simple recipe for success, what to add and what not to add, and troubleshooting common problems people experience. The in-person session at Edendale Farm includes viewing composting heaps and worm farms on site. Discounted compost bins and resources are available on the day. Both in-person and online formats are offered.

• How many participants are typically in worm farm and composting workshops?

  Worm farm and composting workshops are adult-focused learning experiences designed for small group settings. These workshops are held indoors with outdoor components depending on weather. Discounted worm farms are available for purchase on the day of the workshop, and participants can arrange bulk purchases by contacting Edendale on 9433 3711.

• What beekeeping courses are available for beginners?

  We offer an Introduction to Beekeeping workshop suitable for adults and families considering adding a beehive to their home garden. This covers bee life cycles, seasonal behaviour, the importance of bees, equipment needed, regulations, and safety. We also offer a dedicated Beekeeping Workshop limited to 8 participants that covers hive establishment, spring tasks, honey extraction, and swarm control. Participants receive a wooden beehive frame with beeswax foundation and a discounted copy of the Bee AgSkills book.

• What indigenous plant and gardening courses do you offer?

  We offer multiple indigenous plant programs including Gardening with Indigenous Plants (a talk with farm tour by Fiona Cross), a three-part Nurturing Indigenous Gardens series covering design principles, wildlife elements, and maintenance, and a Walk and Talk experience at Bunjil Reserve exploring native plants, their food/fibre/medicine uses, and habitat creation. Community Planting Days are also available where volunteers help plant native species as part of riparian restoration along Diamond Creek, with a target of 1000 plants in 2025.

• Do you offer courses on reducing waste and sustainable fashion?

  Yes. We offer an Alterations, Fitting and Mending Workshop limited to 4 participants where you bring your own garments to learn techniques including taking in/letting out seams, adding darts, repairing hems and tears, replacing zippers and buttons, and visible mending. We also host Clothes Swap events at Edendale where participants bring up to 5 items in good condition to exchange using a token system. Additionally, an Introduction to Woodworking Class teaches creation of items from reclaimed timber, and Small Leather Goods Making uses luxury leather off-cuts to create sustainable accessories.
